Whether you’re new to running or have been doing it for years, training for a 5K run is a great way to get your heart pumping and improve your overall health. Short races like a 5K are perfect for the whole family!
Running or walking in a 5K has other benefits too. Coming together with family, neighbors, and friends to participate in a fundraising 5K just feels good! It’s a great way to connect with the community and bring awareness to organizations that count on donations to continue their work, like WHEAT Community Connections.
WHEAT’s food pantry and Café provide struggling residents in Berlin, Bolton, Clinton, Lancaster and Sterling with several weeks’ worth of groceries each month and serves free home-cooked meals five nights a week. Volunteers and staff work tirelessly to ensure people who struggle make ends meet, and have access to healthy, nutritious food all year.
At the 3rd Annual Reindeer Run 5K, each runner’s $30 registration fee will provide food for people in need. It provides bags full of healthy food to clients like eggs and fresh vegetables, meat, peanut butter, soup, and more. It provides hot meals in the WHEAT Café that are cooked fresh every day by caring, dedicated volunteers.
So, if you’re going to run a 5K for fitness, remember to feed your soul too and support local individuals and families who rely on WHEAT to keep food on their tables for three meals a day! See you at the run!
